Self-exclusion is a process that allows a person to voluntarily request to be excluded from legalized gaming activities within the District of Columbia under the Office of Lottery and Gaming’s (OLG) jurisdiction for a pre-determined length of time, and to be prohibited from collecting any winnings, recovering any losses or accepting complimentary gifts or services or any other thing of value from an OLG-licensed facility, retail location or mobile wagering platform.
Participating in the Program starts with an application that can be submitted using the following options:
- Class A or B sports wagering facility (Effective 3/1/2022): These are privately held sports wagering facilities licensed by the Office. Each sports wagering facility is authorized to process a Self-Exclusion Program application. The following link provides the current approved list of Class A & B sports wagering operators.
- Office of Lottery and Gaming: A person may contact the Responsible Gambling Specialist (see contact information below) to make an appointment at the Office’s headquarters located at 2235 Shannon Place SE, Washington, DC 20020.
- Online: A person may submit a self-exclusion application online through the Office’s website. The following links provide further information:
Persons participating in the Program will be excluded from gaming throughout the District. This means that if they sign up for self-exclusion at a Class A or B facility, they will not only be excluded from the particular facility, but from all gambling establishments (retail or online/mobile app) in the District.
Players having any questions regarding the Self-Exclusion Program or to make an appointment for self-exclusion can contact the Office’s Responsible Gambling Specialist Donna White at (202) 788-2102 or email@example.com.

No, there is no cost.
You will need to bring a valid government-issued identification that includes your signature and your photograph – e.g., a driver’s license, passport, or other identification.
The Self-Exclusion Application requires the following identifying information:
- Name, including any aliases or nicknames
- Address of current residence
- Primary telephone number
- Email address
- Date of Birth
- Social Security number
- Physical description, including height, weight, gender, hair color, eye color and any other physical characteristic that may assist in identification.
- Government-issued photo identification such as a driver’s license or passport
You will also sign the Self-Exclusion Application and have your photograph taken. That photo, and other identifying information, will be distributed to OLG’s designated agents and licensed and contracted operator for the proper administration of the Self-Exclusion List and/or Self-Exclusion database.
No. A person cannot place another person on the Self-Exclusion List. Placement on the list is entirely voluntary and must be done by the individual seeking exclusion.
Yes, you may bring someone with you for support, but the interview and signature on the application must be completed privately with the OLG designated agent. This ensures that your information remains confidential and your rights are protected.
Once you register, you will be voluntarily excluded from entering any of the designated gaming areas of OLG-licensed sportsbooks and lottery retailers. You cannot place wagers, receive or use complimentary goods or services, participate in promotions, be a member of a rewards or players club, or collect winnings or recover losses at any OLG-licensed sportsbook location, on any licensee’s associated wagering website or wagering mobile application, at DC Lottery headquarters, at a licensed DC Lottery retailer, DC Lottery-operated or sponsored websites or DC Lottery-operated mobile application within the District. Also, OLG-licensed sportsbooks and the DC Lottery are to remove your name from their direct marketing lists.
To reduce the temptation to return to one of these gaming locations, their websites and/or mobile applications, all of your reward points will be forfeited, players club memberships closed, and targeted mailings, telemarketing promotions, player club memberships and other promotional materials sent to you via mail and electronically will be suspended.
Yes, you may be inside of the designated gaming areas of OLG-licensed sportsbooks and lottery retailers, but not in areas specifically devoted to sports wagering or other forms of gambling under the OLG’s jurisdiction.
After successful enrollment into the Self-Exclusion Program, the OLG and its licensees will not contact you via phone, email or standard mail regarding your exclusion. However, you may reach out to the OLG at any time should you have questions about your enrollment by calling 202-788-2102 or by emailing SelfExclusionProgram@dc.gov.
The OLG takes privacy very seriously and protects your sensitive information using only secure procedures to share information necessary to implement the Self-Exclusion Program with its licensed operators.
Your name and all other information will remain confidential and will not be released to the public, including your family and friends.
Your choices of terms of exclusion are: one (1) year, eighteen (18) months, three (3) years, five (5) years or a lifetime exclusion.
You may select the lifetime exclusion only if your name has previously appeared on the OLG Self-Exclusion List for at least six (6) months.
You can renew or extend the term of exclusion period at any time, but you cannot reduce the amount of time once you have selected it.
If you are identified as an excluded person at a licensed facility or location under the OLG’s jurisdiction, you will be refused entry to or ejected from areas specifically devoted to sports wagering or other forms of gambling and must forfeit any money wagered, losses, or winnings. This includes withholding of any money or thing of value that has been converted to a wagering instrument including things like tickets, vouchers, prizes, non-complimentary pay vouchers, electronic credits on a mobile wagering system or any other implement of value representing a prize won from gambling.
Upon completion of your selected duration, you may request removal from the Self-Exclusion List by participating in an exit session with an OLG-designated agent. Your name shall remain on the list after the expiration of the selected Term of Exclusion until request for removal is approved by the OLG in accordance with the Office’s rules and regulations governing Self-Exclusion.
You may schedule a Self-Exclusion exit session by contacting the OLG’s Responsible Gaming Program Specialist at 202-788-2102. At this time, all exit sessions must be conducted in person.
Yes, you may re-enroll into the program as many times as you would like. To do this, please schedule an appointment with the OLG’s Responsible Gaming Program Specialist.
